Per-Anders Jansson has worked as Medical advisor at Gothia Forum since 2014 and he also holds the position as professor of translational medical research at University of Gothenburg. This position is the first of its kind and involves a combination of teaching and supervision in medical research and translational medical research.
Per-Anders Jansson has been involved in research projects in type 2 diabetes for 25 years and in recent years he leads a group at the Wallenberg Laboratory at the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg. He is an expert on mechanisms behind insulin resistance in prediabetes/type 2 diabetes and has a passion for patient-oriented research.
- My vision is that combining experimental research and clinical work appeals to younger physicians in a much higher degree. It’s also important to raise the interest for patient-oriented research within primary care, where most patients are.
At Gothia Forum Per-Anders is part of a team handling project requests of all kinds. We can help with individual stages as well as taking responsibility for the whole research project. We can also assist with scientific advice, for example, find access points in the health care system, feasibility as well as develop project plans and study protocols.
- My role as medical advisor is basically to assess projects on the basis of patient benefit and academic potential. Gothia Forum aims to contribute to high scientific quality for all projects implemented in Region Västra Götaland. In some cases, we act as an access point, then I have the benefit of my large network of contacts in particular at Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the Sahlgrenska Academy.
He's working on some projects in close collaboration with Louise de Verdier, who is responsible for the Grants Office at Gothia Forum. For larger EU applications, we offer advice and support, for example, find suitable partners.
- We complement each other well. I'm primarily looking at the scientific quality and clinical clutch while Louise is an expert in project management and proof reading.
